Asian Games 2026: Suruchi-Kamaljeet Lead India's Six-Medal Day

India collected six medals at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on 25 September, its biggest single-day haul of the competition at that point. Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet won the 10m air pistol mixed team title with an Asian Games record score of 484.6 points. The Indian pair led throughout the final and finished 6.6 points ahead of South Korea, which took silver. Iran won bronze with 415.8 points.

The result gave India its second gold medal of the Games and its first shooting gold at Aichi-Nagoya. The women's cricket team had won the country's first gold earlier in the competition.

Suruchi and Kamaljeet had faced disappointment in their individual pistol events. Their mixed team result produced a strong response and added another medal to India's shooting campaign.

Men's 50m Rifle Team Takes Silver

Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Niraj Kumar and Rudrankksh Patil won silver in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions team event. India finished with a combined score of 1762-94x, four points behind China, which won gold with 1766-95x. South Korea took bronze with 1751-87x.

The three-position event covers kneeling, prone and standing. Team medals are decided by the combined qualification scores of the designated shooters. Aishwary and Niraj also qualified for the individual final, where they finished fifth and eighth respectively.

Manush Shah and Diya Chitale Win Table Tennis Bronze

Manush Shah and Diya Chitale won bronze in the mixed doubles table tennis competition. They secured a medal by defeating Hong Kong China's Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem 3-1 in the quarter-finals.

The Indian pair then faced China's Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha in the semi-finals. The Chinese team won 4-0, and both losing semi-finalists received bronze medals.

The result was India's fourth table tennis medal in Asian Games history and its second in mixed doubles. Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra won India's first mixed doubles bronze at Jakarta 2018.

Gulveer Singh Wins Men's 10,000m Silver

Gulveer Singh won silver in the men's 10,000m with a time of 28:29.38. Bahrain's Birhanu Balew won gold in 28:27.51, while Albert Kiptoo took bronze in 28:34.38.

Gulveer improved on the bronze medal he won at the Hangzhou Asian Games. His silver followed Seema Kumari's bronze in the women's 10,000m on 24 September.

Manpreet Kaur and Baranica Elangovan Add Bronze Medals

Manpreet Kaur won bronze in the women's shot put with a best throw of 17.17m. It was her first Asian Games medal.

Baranica Elangovan also earned bronze in the women's pole vault after clearing 4.15m. She shared bronze with Kazakhstan's Polina Ivanova and became the first Indian to win an Asian Games pole vault medal.
